Planning a trip with your pets can be daunting. There are two specific areas that often give pet parents pause: where to stay and what airline to fly. Fortunately, with a little knowledge, it’s a simpler endeavor than you might think. Here are my picks for the best pet friendly hotels. Stay tuned for my breakdown on how to pick the right airline for you and your furry friend.

Hotels
I’ve traveled extensively with my dogs and stayed at just about every type of hotel you can imagine. What I’ve learned, and pet parents don’t always realize, is that there really are an abundance of pet friendly hotels that are ready and willing to take great care of both you and your pet.
I’ve found many gracious, accommodating pet friendly hotels, in every price range. While it was very hard to narrow things down, I was able to decide on my top hotel picks based on the pet policies, pet fees, pet amenities, and the overall quality of my experience.
Keep in mind that in all cases, hotels only welcome pets when they’re well-behaved and not prohibited by law.
Economy-Range Hotels
Motel 6
There probably isn’t a more famous motel than Motel 6. You can find one almost anywhere–they’re located along every major highway in the United States. Not only is it a convenient stop, but it’s a great choice for pet parents. Dogs of every size and breed are welcome at every location. There’s no pet fee and multiple pets are allowed.
Red Roof Inn
This pet friendly hotel chain does a great job of welcoming pets. After all, their motto is “You Stay Happy, Pets Stay Free.” They even have a fun Facebook page–Red Roof Luvs Pets–that’s dedicated to the furry, four-footed set. Red Roof Inn has 345 locations, all of which allow guests to stay with one pet for free.
Moderate/Mid-Range Hotels
La Quinta Inns & Suites
La Quinta is the perfect place to stay if you want high-quality service and the feel of a high-end hotel at a more affordable price. La Quinta is also a perfect choice for those with pets. All of their locations allow up to two pets, and there’s no fee and no breed or weight restrictions. Pets are allowed to stay alone in your room, provided they’re well-behaved. I personally have stayed at La Quinta a number of times. The staff members were always very welcoming and each location I’ve been to had dog treats at the front desk.
Candlewood Inn & Suites
I’ve found this hotel to be great for extended stays with pets. Every location allows multiple pets of up to 80 pounds each. There’s a reasonable pet fee which uses a sliding scale that depends on how long you stay. However, it’s the little things that count for pet parents–every location has a designated dog relief area, complete with poop bags and waste disposal (no searching for grassy spots in the parking lot). Well-behaved pets can be left unattended in rooms, and the hotel provides you with a door magnet that alerts staff that your pet is a guest at the hotel. They too offer dog treats at the front desk!
Luxury Hotels
Kimpton
Hotel companies don’t get pet friendlier than Kimpton. Kimpton has a range of boutique hotels in a number of locations and all of their hotels welcome pets with open arms. There are no breed or weight restrictions–the staff at the Kimpton Firesky in Scottsdale told me that one of their regular guests visits with her pot-bellied pig. Kimpton’s motto is “If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.” What’s more, they even provide you with a pet. You can order a pet fish to be delivered to your room, if you’d like.
Loews Hotels
Loews Hotels really gives pets the luxury experience. Their Loews Loves Pets Program offers pets welcome gifts like a nametag, a bowl, and treats. The hotel provides pet walking and pet-sitting services, lends guests pet beds, litter boxes, and scratching posts. My and my dog’s very favorite amenity is the special doggie room service menu, which offers tasty, vet-approved selections he loves. We enjoy relaxing and dining in together, especially during a hectic trip. Loews does have a limit of two pets per room. Pet fees vary from hotel to hotel, starting at $25 per stay.
