Valentine’s Day is coming up again, and this year the celebration of love happens on a Saturday. You know what that means, right? It’s the perfect opportunity to plan a romantic weekend getaway with your partner. But where to go and what to do? Fear not, because I’ve got five kinds of Valentine’s Day getaways that are sure to inspire.
1. The Classic City Trip
Everyone knows the classic city trip: you leave on Friday, stay in a nice boutique hotel for two nights, and spend your days exploring a new city together. It might not be that creative, but sightseeing during the day always inspires good conversation, and in the evenings you’ll be tired enough to just cuddle up together and enjoy the fact that you don’t need to do any laundry.
2. The Weekend Adventure
If you’re both more outdoorsy people, a weekend adventure might be the perfect Valentine’s trip for you. Go rafting in the morning, hiking in the afternoon, and prepare your own meal over a fire in the evening. At night, you can keep each other warm by the fire in your wooden cottage, and in the morning you can freshen up by the lake.
3. The Gastronomical Splurge
A lot of hotels offer gastronomical weekends. These hotels are usually located either in a city or somewhere in nature, where you can go walk during the day to build up your appetite for the evening. That’s when you’ll get a (at least) five-course meal followed by a coffee and a nightcap. It’s the ideal trip to plan if you’re both into food and fine beverages.
4. A Weekend in the Snow
In the Northern Hemisphere, February is a great month to go skiing or snowboarding. Why not ride the slopes together and push each other to finally try that front slip or noseslide? You may find other couples celebrating Valentine’s in the après-ski, but when you get back to your chalet it’ll be just the two of you and, who knows, your partner might need a good massage after that active day.
5. A Secret Weekend at Home
Although a trip is always a good way to celebrate just about anything, some couples already have such hectic lives that they’re happy when they can just spend a night at home together. So, why not go crazy and make it an entire weekend? The trick: don’t tell anyone you’ll be home, switch off your laptops, phones and tablets, and simply enjoy each others’ company. Play a board game, rent a movie, and cook together. You might even fall in love all over again.
