I love beaches! Let’s be honest, who doesn’t? Everyone knows the famous beaches like Waikiki Beach, South Beach or Copacabana Beach. But what about the best off the beaten path beaches from around the world? In my travels to every country in the world, I have been on my fair share of amazing beaches. My favorites are generally the ones that most people have never heard of. Here are four of the world’s best kept secret beaches!
Anakena Beach, Easter Island, Chile (South Pacific)
Easter Island is one of the most remote places in the world with an airport. It’s definitely far from everywhere, but at the same time it’s very accessible. You can fly there from both Santiago, Chile and from Papeete, French Polynesia. When you arrive, you should beeline to Playa Anakena or Anakena Beach!
Anakena Beach is as nice a beach as you can imagine on a remote, mysterious and gorgeous South Pacific Island. The perfect oval beach has warm azure water, pristine sand and is flanked by the famous Moai of Easter Island. In my book, that makes Anakena Beach one of the world’s best beaches and a definite must see on Easter Island.
Sancho Beach, Fernando de Noronha, Brazil
Praia do Sancho or Sancho Beach is one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. It’s located on the small Brazilian island of Fernando de Noronha located off the northeast coast of Brazil equidistant from Natal and Recife. You can fly there from either city and it’s well worth a visit.
Praia do Sancho is gorgeous a beach as you’ll ever see. It could be a screensaver that comes prepackaged in your computer. To access the beach, you have to hike down a very steep cliff where you will be greeted by a wide-open beach with nobody on it. It’s a true paradise and the way you want your exotic beach to be.
Ses Illetes Beach, Formentera, Balearic Islands, Spain
Ses Illetes Beach, on the small Spanish island of Formentera, is in my opinion the best beach in Europe and the best beach in the Mediterranean. Formentera is located just off the coast of the better-known island of Ibiza. You can take a boat from Ibiza to reach Formentera and I recommend you do.
Ses Illetes Beach is a multi-sided beach that, unlike many beaches in the Mediterranean, has beautiful, soft, white sand. It looks like a Caribbean or Southeast Asian beach. It’s spectacular but it definitely feels like Europe. Walk up the long shores and see it from different angles to really appreciate how gorgeous it is. If you’ve been to many rocky, ugly, beaches in the Mediterranean, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Dewey Beach, Delaware, USA
Dewey Beach is a small little town about a mile or so long in the very small East Coast state of Delaware. Most people don’t even know that Delaware has beaches. However, about a 3-hour drive from Washington D.C. or Philadelphia is paradise (of sorts) on the East Coast.
I go to Dewey every summer for a week with all my friends and I have for nearly 20 years. It’s a very fun town with a gorgeous beach that nobody knows about. You come to Dewey to relax, party, listen to live music, eat and hang out with friends. It’s a place that is generational to people and it has a real small-town feel and that’s because you walk everywhere. Dewey is gorgeous and is one of my favorite places in the world… shhh don’t tell anyone.
