We’re excited to introduce two new features in the TripIt app! Whether you’re looking for a restaurant, bar, cafe, convenience store or ATM— TripIt’s new Nearby Places feature makes it easy to find places close to where you’re staying. If you find a place you like but can’t get there right away, you can save it in TripIt to visit later.
For Pro users, TripIt will now notify you of your terminal and gate information as you approach the airport. This way, you’ll know exactly where you’re headed when you arrive.
Accessing Nearby Places
TripIt has you covered for locating the closest places to eat, drink or pick up supplies you forgot at home–all you need to do is access Nearby Places in the lodging details screen of your TripIt app. To get there, tap on your trip, and then tap on where you’re staying. There you will find Nearby Places. Then, select the type of place you’re looking for, and TripIt will find what’s close by.
For example, if you’re looking for a restaurant near to where you’re staying, tap on the restaurants option in Nearby Places. It’ll also give you useful information like the restaurant’s contact details, hours, reviews and more. If you want to see where the restaurant is located in relation to your hotel, TripIt will also show you an interactive map with each option tagged.
Once you find a place you want to visit you can easily get directions or tap the plus sign to save it in TripIt to visit later.
Nearby Places is available for all TripIt users with the TripIt mobile app. Be sure you have downloaded the latest version: 9.4 for iOS or 6.4 for Android.
And when you’re near the airport…
For TripIt Pro users, a new feature is available to alert you to your terminal and gate number when you’re close to the airport—making sure you have the information you need, when you need it most. To receive this alert, visit the TripIt Pro tab in your mobile app and select the “Terminal and Gate Reminders” feature. You can also turn the alert on by visiting the push notifications section in the settings of your mobile app.
Not receiving this new alert? Visit the Pro tab in your TripIt mobile app and select the “Terminal and Gate Reminders” feature. Make sure you have also given TripIt permission to access your location from your mobile device’s GPS. This is how TripIt knows when you’re close to the airport. To do this, visit the app permissions section of your mobile device.
