Planning a car trip can be as easy as starting the ignition in your vehicle when you have TripIt, an easy-to-use route planner. TripIt takes all the guesswork out of finding the best route by automatically generating local maps and driving directions via Google Maps. To start, simply forward any travel confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com.
Automatic Maps & Directions
TripIt automatically places maps and directions in your itinerary for any and all lodgings you have reserved. For example, after forwarding flight confirmation and hotel reservation emails to TripIt, the program will automatically generate the best route between your airport and the hotel. If you would rather manually input all maps and directions into your travel itinerary, you may turn off the auto import feature in your settings (visit the Help Center for more information).
Custom Maps & Directions
You can add a map and/or directions for any location to your car trip itinerary manually with TripIt. Simply type in the appropriate address (or addresses) and TripIt will use Google Maps to generate what you need. From there you can print out a custom map or directions or access the information through your mobile device.
Mobile Usage
Using a map and directions in your itinerary on TripIt’s mobile app requires the pre-instillation of Google Maps to your mobile device. TripIt will open Google Maps on your device should you click on a map or directions in your travel itinerary. From there, you can use a variety of features on Google Maps to reach your destination. From calculated travel time to highlighted traffic updates, Google Maps will provide you with the best possible route to the destination of your choice.
Organize Multiple Trips
TripIt allows you to create multiple itineraries in your account to fit your travel needs. Your itineraries are fully customizable, allowing you to separate trip details, driving directions and maps into different fields so you can easily access car trip information online or through your mobile device.
Share Your Trip
With TripIt, you can keep track of distance traveled and share it with your friends. Whether you want to share all your itineraries with your travel buddies or share a snippet with your followers on social media. TripIt offers Facebook integration and creates a link for each itinerary so you can share car trips over email as well.
