Deciding to have a destination wedding is one thing. But once you and your spouse-to-be have made that big decision, quick on its heels is another: Where? There’s no shortage of beautiful destination wedding locations to choose from but this shortlist of picture perfect places are absolutely incredible contenders:
Where: Ritz-Carlton Bali
Why to tie the knot here: The Majestic Chapel is a small glass lit chapel right at the edge of Sawangan Beach in Nusa Dua, Bali, on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Able to accommodate up to 100 guests, this far-flung but intimate wedding venue will turn any couple’s wedding dreams into a reality. In a lush tropical destination like Bali, guests are sure to enjoy outdoor adventures and water activities as well as all the amenities provided by the hotel; especially, the luxurious spa and L’Atelier Parfums & Creations where guests can create their own signature fragrances.
Why to tie the knot here: In a word: elegance. Since first throwing open its doors over 100 years ago (it’s changed ownership over the years), the historic and charming Langham Huntington, Pasadena has long been a landmark property in Southern California. It’s the perfect spot to host an outdoor wedding in either the beautiful Horseshoe or Japanese Garden, followed by a decadent reception in one of the historic ballrooms. Nestled at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains and sprawling across 23 acres, a wedding here will be a grand affair.
Where: Moana Surfrider
Why to tie the knot here: Your guests will be thrilled to join you and your loved one in Waikiki for a dream destination wedding. The Moana Surfrider is over a century old and its design artfully merges historic charm with modern day amenities. Lovingly known as the First Lady of Waikiki, the Moana Surfrider is an idyllic spot to take those special vows, at an oceanfront ceremony, just as the sun sinks into the horizon behind you. Plus, the property is full of amazing spots for wedding photos, like the porte cochère at the entry way or under the hotel’s historic banyan tree which, like the hotel, is also 100+ years old.
Where: Ballyfin Demesne
Why to tie the knot here: When you think ‘romance,’ Ireland may not leap to mind. But that means you haven’t been to Ballyfin Demesne. This absolutely stunning property is the stuff fairy tales are made of, and a wedding here is sure to be a glamorous and effortlessly elegant affair. Situated in County Laois, about 100 kilometres southwest of Dublin, Ballyfin has a grand ballroom that can accommodate wedding receptions of up to 130 guests, as well as a State Dining Room that can accommodate up to 70 guests. With lush green landscapes and spectacular terraces and gardens, this venue is the perfect backdrop for a romantic wedding.
Where: Four Seasons Bora Bora
Why to tie the knot here: Well, you know what they say about Bora Bora: it’s so nice, they named it twice! And it doesn’t get more romantic than the Four Seasons Bora Bora—this is a wedding with a honeymoon built in. The best part is the variety of options to choose from here. The Aherenoa Chapel is situated at the edge of a lagoon and offers breathtaking views of Mount Otemanu in the distance. The Pahia is an event space that can accommodate 40-50 guests. But best of all is a wedding aboard a catamaran. The boat has two levels and features a full bar, a dining area and a rooftop sundeck. Talk about getting married in style. No one will ever forget your South Seas nuptials!
Where: Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni
Why to tie the knot here: The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, which is open from April to November, is one of the oldest hotels in the Lake Como region of Italy and is the only 5-star, luxury hotel in Bellagio. If European charm and old world glamour are your style, then this is definitely a wedding venue to consider. The stunning halls of this 19th century villa will make your jaw drop. The Royal Hall can accommodate up to 240 guests. Or you can host your special day outdoors on the shores of the lake in the Italian gardens and under a canopy of trees.
Where: Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
Why to tie the knot here: Close your eyes and picture you and your special someone getting married against a magical backdrop of shimmering turquoise waters, flanked by the majestic Rocky Mountains. Or, what about an all white, winter wonderland wedding? Whether you choose to get married in the summer or winter, a wedding at the Fairmont Lake Louise is guaranteed to be pretty special, surrounded by some of the most spectacular natural beauty in the world. And if you prefer an indoor affair, there are a variety of terraces and ballrooms to choose from.
Where: Cavallo Point
Why to tie the knot here: Cavallo Point is a historic property situated at Fort Baker, a former U.S. Army post, and nestled at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. The property has a few different event venues to choose from, like the Callippe Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 160 guests or smaller rooms for more intimate affairs. But the winning choice here is to make use of the stunning outdoor space, which can be tented for receptions and can accommodate up to 250 guests. All lit up at night, with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, this is a spectacular wedding location.
Where: Falaknuma Palace
Why to tie the knot here: If you’re looking for a far-flung, exotic wedding getaway, look no further than Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, India. This place is, as its name suggests, absolutely palatial and is the former residence of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Upon arrival, guests are transported via horse drawn carriage to a stunning palace entrance where rose petals are showered upon you. Weddings can take place in either the 9,000-square-foot Rajasthani Gardens or in the gilded Durbar Hall, one of the most beautiful rooms in the palace.
Where: Trump Hotel Toronto
Why to tie the knot here: OK, I’ll admit, I’m biased. This beautiful property in Toronto was the scene of my own ‘destination wedding.’ Granted, Toronto is my hometown, but it was a destination wedding for my husband and his family who do not hail from Canada. While Toronto might not be your typical wedding destination, it’s a vibrant city with a ton of things for your guests to do. And the Trump Hotel Toronto is a beautiful hotel with a gorgeous black and white ballroom that overlooks the city at night, in all its shimmery beauty.
