Anyone who has planned a wedding knows that it can come with its fair share of stress, no matter how many times you promise yourself that you’re going to keep things low-key. It’s just the nature of organizing a big event. Things can—and often do—go wrong and you’re sure to encounter at least one argument with your future spouse or mother-in-law along the way. So when it’s all over, the happy bride and groom deserve a getaway to relieve the stress and celebrate their union.
Not sure where to go? Here are six spectacularly romantic honeymoon destinations to consider:
What could possibly be more romantic than your own private island? Banana Island is in Doha, Qatar and is a one-of-a-kind experience you and your special someone will never forget. Situated about 20 minutes from Doha, the capital city of Qatar, this remote spot is only accessible by private boat or helicopter—talk about exclusive! There’s only one place to stay on this secluded lover’s paradise: The Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara. There are 141 rooms on property, including those over-water villas that you’ve always dreamed about. Plus, there’s a private beach and a lagoon pool as well as a VIP cinema, spa and yes, even a bowling alley—all exclusively for the use of hotel guests.

Well, this one’s easy because it’s where my husband Johnny Jet and I honeymooned! Unlike some beach destinations where there’s not much else to do besides lay on the beach, Bali is full of culture and history. You’ll definitely want to visit some of the incredible Hindu temples and see the rice terraces, which are truly a sight to behold. And when you just want to lay low and relax, you’ll find plenty of places to do just that, whether it’s poolside at your hotel or somewhere along the Indian Ocean.
Where to stay: St. Regis Bali
Deep in the Kenyan Bush, you’ll find Mahali Mzuri, Richard Branson’s luxury safari camp. Located in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, Mahali Mzuri (which means ‘beautiful place’ in Swahili) is just that—one of the most spectacularly beautiful places you’ll ever see. When you’re not out on game drives, spotting incredible animals in the lush and awe-inspiring African landscape, you’ll be enjoying restful days in your luxury tent and romantic evenings on property.

While many people think of beach destinations for their honeymoon, what could be more romantic than a getaway for two in the City of Light? Spring, summer, fall and winter are all impossibly delightful in Paris—a claim I’m pretty sure no other city in the world can make. Whether you’re picnicking under cloudless skies, walking along the Seine in the snow or running back to your hotel in the rain, Paris is made for lovers and is the perfect honeymoon destination.
Where to stay: Castille Paris
White sand and turquoise waters are pretty close to home, especially if you live on the east coast. Did you know that flight time from New York to Bermuda is just over two hours? Bermuda is the perfect lovers’ paradise and the beaches here rival those in more far-flung corners of the world. It’s perfect if you don’t have a lot of time, need a nearby destination or if you’re not a fan of long-haul flights.

If long-haul flights don’t bother you and you dream of a honeymoon somewhere exotic, think Thailand. Though it takes a while to get there and flights might be pricey, once you arrive, you’ll find that Thailand is one of the most affordable places you can honeymoon. Plus, there are so many different types of honeymooning you can enjoy in Thailand if you want to move around and explore the country. You can enjoy the bustle of busy Bangkok, take in the tranquil countryside in Chiang Rai and finish on one of the islands, lazing on the beach, drinking fresh watermelon juice.
