When we released the iPad app in May, we told you at the time that there would be many more features to come. Well, good news: the first round of new features is live in the Apple store.

So when you update your app, you’ll now be able to add, edit or delete trips or plans directly on the iPad.

But wait, there’s more.

We’ve also enhanced the directions feature so you can create turn-by-turn directions using plans in your itinerary, your current location, or any other address. It’s like your own personal “nav,” minus the bossy dude telling you what to do.

As always, we’re curious to know what you think, so meet us on Twitter, on Facebook or through our support form. And thanks to those of you who shared your comments with the first release, you help us help you!

Gotta go, we’re busy working on v 2.7!

By Hootan Mahallati, Mobile Product Manager for TripIt

Here at TripIt, we're always keen to take advantage of the unique features that different mobile platforms offer users. Fresh on the heels of releasing our first iPad app, which leverages the larger screen size, we are excited to announce one of the more significant TripIt for Android releases in a while – version 1.6 – which in turn takes advantage of Android's strengths.

With TripIt for Android v1.6, you will have a choice of installing two widgets on your home screen, allowing you to stay updated on the current plan in your itinerary with just a glance. Just press and hold your screen, choose widgets, and look for TripIt.

Signing in to the app is much more streamlined now. You will no longer have to sign in through a browser and in addition, a scroll-down menu will store all the email addresses stored on your device with which to sign in. Less typing is always a good thing.

The app itself is much more powerful now, offering you the capability to add, edit or delete trips and plans, a feature that had been available in our iPhone app for a few months.

Once in the app, you will have a second way to interact with the app. As an alternative to tapping the menu button, you can press and hold the screen to expose the action menu.

We hope that Android users will love the latest version of the TripIt Android app. Let us know what you think and as always, stay tuned for more good news soon. TripIt for Android v1.6 is available here.

With this new iPhone 2.4 update -- which you should get now in the App Store -- you can edit your plans in the app, resolve duplicates in the app, and there's a shiny new sign in experience that doesn't bounce you to the Web or do anything weird. It all just works. There is still a long list of things that we think can be a lot better about our app, but this new version is a big deal and, I think, makes life a lot better.

We need to confess something.

There are three things about TripIt's iPhone app that we’ve always hated. And it’s likely you’ve hated them too.

Allow me to vent for a moment.

It drives me nuts that I can't edit my plans from the phone. It's a hassle when my plans change at the airport and I can't update myTripIt app with my new flight info (and then I keep getting timely, awesome TripIt Pro alerts about my now irrelevant old flight info). Ugh. Yes, TripIt's magic is converting your travel confirmation emails to itineraries through plans@tripit.com or Auto Import, but who are we to tell you what you can and can't do after that?

Second, when TripIt's itinerator detects conflicting plan information (like when my airline tweaks my flight's schedule, emails me about it and it gets picked up by Auto Import), it dutifully shows the conflicting plans in TripIt's iPhone app. (Which flight info is correct!? Gahh!) To resolve the conflict, I have to go to a Web browser. Fail.

Third, I hate the way I have to sign in to TripIt for iPhone. I go from the app, to m.tripit.com in Safari and then back to the app: it's a pain. If I fat-finger my password, it gets ugly, quick.

Well, with iPhone 2.4 we let our haters be our motivators (even when the haters are in our own office!). With this new update — which you should get now in the App Store — you can edit your plans in the app, pick the right flight among updates in the app, and there's a shiny new sign in experience that doesn't bounce you to the Web or do anything weird. It all just works. There is still a long list of things that we think can be a lot better about our app, but this new version is a big deal and, I think, makes life a lot better.

Thank you to all of you who are using TripIt and sharing your feedback with us. It makes all the time we spend building TripIt worthwhile.
