Web DesignI am really glad that I have found this post and I thank you for letting us know about this information. This is a big help for sure!! Thanks!
Every time you purchase an iphone 5 on launch date you are telling Apple that you don’t care they are making workers work themselves to death.
As others have said, the pritouts now take up too may pages, they print obvious things I already know, like my name. What used to print on a single double sided page of paper now takes 5 pages to print. Huge waste. A lot of extra paper to carry around as well. Bring back the options and allow us to have a consolidated print view, just like the base pages have before the events are expanded. I am a paying customer as well and vote for the old interface.
Really disappointed with these changes. The new appearance violates a number of basic user interface design principles. You don't need to be a design guru to know that it's important for users to be able to easily distinguish between discrete elements on a page, and that this is typically accomplished by applying a diverse array of colors and/or imagery. I really wish I could revert back to the old view.
I've tried to give the new design a chance and have to say that it just doesn't work. Trip plans should be understandable at a glance. I'm usually referring to TripIt when I need the information quickly (e.g. giving an address to a cabbie, confirming flight time). Simply put that I have to sometimes expand a section to get what I need means that the new design fails. I waited to post a comment to see if the new design would become more intuitive but I don't think that it will. As an early adopter and advocate of TripIt, and a Pro subscriber, I'm sad to say that without some changes I'm feeling forced to look for an alternative.
Hi have to agree the new design is terrible. Everything blends together and you can't see where one activity ends and another starts. And when I print it misses so of the start times and put them else where. Please fix the design or put back the old design. Please listen to the people who use it. Thank you
I like your new design and I hope it will be helpful to me when I visit to the France in December.
I'm disappointed that the "what to print" options are no longer available. I like to send simple itineraries as pdfs to clients. Now there is no way to simplify the print version of the itinerary; it prints all information whether you want it or not, even including the maps. Please see two other comments: "One thing I do not like (and wish to see restored) is the choice of what to display when printing an itinerary. " and "I cannot locate the option to "print notes" or "not include". ... Would appreciate if we could inset a page break."
The new UI is horrible. It doesn’t import my reservations in the same way as prior. I have to completely edit the hotel information because what is stored is not sufficient. The format looks terrible and I’m very disappointed with the current product. Let me go back to before…I loved Tripit and recommended it to many people. Now, based on the changes I will not buy my PRO upgrade again and I will never recommend it to a friend. Bad move Tripit...it sure feels like your UI folks may have sabotaged your site by the changes to go work for the competition. I can’t believe anyone that created such a great product prior would let it go to shambles now.
Thanks to everyone here for sharing your feedback. I've personally reviewed all the conversations here, all feedback sent to our support team, and all comments posted to Facebook and Twitter. I'm pleased to share we just rolled out some updates to the itinerary page, and there will be more to come. The itinerary page was re-designed based on your feedback and will continue to evolve based on your input.
I miss the comments and conversations right there on the trip page. made it great for family and friends to work out stuff together. Can see how it was not useful for business users though
This new design does NOT work at all with a recent build of chrome. Text is written on top of other text, images are displaced. It is, what we call in NZ, a dog's breakfast. PLEASE revert it until it has been tested and fixed. I depend on Tripit, and you've broken it badly.
This new design is terrible, but in addition to that, I am having trouble in that the flight departure and arrival times are not lining up properly. My most recent itinerary has a completely different departure time than the one on my ticket. I have also searched for alternative programs since I have not received a response from my email requesting help. Prior to this change I absoultely loved this program and recommended it to co-workers and friends.
Not a good change - HATE it! The itineraries are harder to read. I also don't like that the print option no longer includes the ability to select or deselect what you want included - bring that back please!
I HATE the new design. I have sent you two or three comments about this and gotten only the barest form letter back. Everybody here is making the same points, and I'll agree with the person who said they can't believe this made it through testing. Please -- do the right thing, admit this design was a flop, and go back to the old site. I am a paying customer for TripIt Pro but hate the new design so much I am looking for another web site to start living out of. This design is terrible.
Maybe I missed it, but I now can't find my flight confirmation number, even under "More Info". It's the one piece of information (along with my name) that I need for online flight check-in. Can you put the confirmation number back in or tell me where it's displayed? thanks!
It's prettier, but it REALLY SUCKS not being able to have times included when you copy and paste.
I truly love TripIt but not so keen on this. The font is so small, and the activities of each day blur into each other. Maybe if the shading behind the right-hand trip details was a tiny shade darker, each activity would be more distinct from the others and the white page background? The icons and times seem small. I feel the move/copy/delete links were more discreet in their previous position. I'm not some old codger with bad vision either, I promise :)
I find the new look harder to read. the old fashioned flip dial for the times is blurry and it's challenging to easily scan from one entry to the next within a trip.
I am confused like the rest. The UI upgrade got busier and less clean than before. I really wish you would go back to the old way, or at least have a focus group of your users.
I am shocked that this design made it through testing and was actually launched. This is a huge step backward. I have to read through my trips multiple times to make sense of them. The old design was far superior. I appreciate you trying to enhance the site, but this is a failure. Not only is it harder to use, but frankly, it's ugly. Please make an option for us to use the old design. It is far, far easier to use and more pleasing to view.
As long as you're taking feedback, I would love to see more fields added to all of the Activities--Lodging, Restaurant, Activity, and Meeting. I'm not sure how other people use these, but the Guest 1, Guest 2, etc with fields for Frequent Guest # and Ticket # are not useful to me. Same with the Reservation Details below, with "supplier" info. What I need is a series of general contact fields. Name, title/company, email address, phone number, etc. Sometimes I'll use them to enter the contact info for the place we're going. Sometimes it's the event organizer or other attendees. I can put this stuff in the Notes field, but then I can't click on it within the app to dial or email--I have to re-type the phone number or email address. Basically, I need more fields for phone numbers and email addresses within those Activity items. One (for the Supplier, whatever that is) is not enough. And it would be helpful, at the top, to have phone # and email address for the location (lodging, restaurant, or meeting place) as well as address. This would be really helpful if I have to call the facility (for late check-in, to request a shuttle, for directions, parking questions, to change the reservation, whatever)
I also am having trouble with the new style. I'm a big fan of TripIt, but the new design presents two main problems for me: 1. It makes it hard to distinguish between phases of a trip. Everything runs together. Give me a little padding between blocks. 2. Text is too small. Unfortunately, as nice as Helvetica Neue/Helvetica are in print, they don't work well at all at small typesizes on the screen. As far as the other esthetics go: I think the grey looks dreary and dated. In an age where clean design has reminded us of the elegance of "less", it's a step backwards. I also think the expanded "edit/move/copy/delete" only adds useless length to the page. Were you solving a UX problem when you did this? Did people really have trouble understanding where to go to do these actions? Love the service. Dislike the style update.
I've only just discovered the new TripIt look, and have not yet made up my mind as to its usability compared to the old version, as I haven't yet generated a new, complete itinerary to use. One thing I do not like (and wish to see restored) is the choice of what to display when printing an itinerary. On my trips, I generally print two versions of the itinerary: one full version (sans photo) for myself, and a short version (without details) that goes into each bag, so that if a bag is lost, whoever finds it can figure out where I will be. As mentioned by others, I'd also like to have some sort of Favorites or address book of previously used info, since I often take the same trip, with very similar itinerary for meetings and lodging.
All these design changes are OK. The social media stuff (like letting people comment on your trip) really seems like fluff. But there's a big functionality change I wish TripIt would make, and that has to do with addresses. If TripIt would store addresses used in travel plans, it would be much easier to: 1. Build driving directions in the map feature without having to copy and paste directions from one destination to the next. 2. When making new travel plans, it would be nice to get a "pick list" of nearby, previously used addresses rather than having to retype or re-copy and paste. For instance, let's say I often go to meetings at a particular office. I'd like to be able to put that in TripIt without retyping the office address every time. Or let's say my lodging is a friend's house or corporate apartment. I won't have an email confirmation to forward to TripIt, but I'd still like to put that address in as lodging. Would be nice to have it as a previously saved address I could just drop in. 3. Maybe have TripIt addresses somehow talk to GPS apps so turn-by-turn directions don't require retyping addresses? Every time I sit in my car with my iPhone in one hand and my portable GPS in the other, typing addresses from one device to the other, I think, why am I doing this? At least with the iPhone 5, maybe I can use a GPS app in place of my portable GPS unit, but am I still going to be re-typing addresses?
Overall the layout is a nice improvement. And, thanks for switching to use HTTPS - better security is always welcomed! However, like the comment above, the grey color scheme is pretty poor especially wrt readability. It really does feel a step back several years in terms of web design. The weather icons are barely visible in the item title bar - again the grey muddles things. Take out the grey backgrounds completely and leave the borders.
I saved some of my frequent traveller information (i.e. mileages) in the "About You" section but it has gone since the New Look was launched. Why? Please advise how can I retrieve it? Where can I keep it now?
I like the improvement - I find it more intuitive to follow the itinerary for each day with this design.
I miss the old TripIt! The color scheme as mentioned before is extremely hard to distinguish and drab looking. Upon opening I thought the site or my computer was running on a Safe Mode. I also use to use the "Add Photo" function and now my photos do not appear until I click "More Info" for each item, meeting, restaurant, activity. Please revert back to the old TripIt!
I agree with some of the comments above. I really like the new interface. However, it is hard to distinguish when one activity ends and another one begins. I like the different colors from the previous version, to distinguish between maps, hotels and flights for example. I think you should retain that.
The new UI is a big step backwards: - the fonts are way too small making the essentials hard to read - there's too much wasted space; just look at the image you posted. - the edit/copy/move/delete buttons are useless. It's much better to have them as 'roll-over' vs 'always there'. - the color scheme doesn't differentiate between the different steps (as before) - for some reason the more info, get seat advice links are placed vertically rather then horizontally making the page long rather then wide (why?) - what's with the gray? - the UI is 'noisey' and cluttered without offering extra information - the print option doesn't provide options like before. As Angel pointed out, now there's a lot of cruft making the printout considerably longer I liked the UI best since it resembled the Google homepage - simple and efficient. Making the information easy to read. The new UI is just too crowded, with too many symbols and way too much space (the new print layout is just a mess). You probably wanted to unify the mobile UI with the web UI (going for vertical vs horizontal layout, having the 'pointy' titles and boxes) but in my opinion it's not going to work. Please bring back the old UI as an option (it's just CSS in the end).
I agree with the previous comments: change the grey color change or set it to be skinnable; make the 'edit/copy/move/delete' options sensitive to the activity under the cursor location; have the icons colored to match the mobile app, or even be selectable from a range of colors. Maybe even flatten the header for each day (ie. remove the two tone coloring, so that it feels in-line with the rest of the itinerary. I'd like to see further iterations of the page show separation between activities; dynamically collapse and expand trips by day or even by location, activity type ('show only the New York leg', or 'print only directions'), or metadata like a public/private flag so that custom itineraries can be printed for different parties, or a print image flag that omits the images from the itinerary. Sorry for the ramble; this is such a great site :)
I completely agree with Lucas and Dan. The new design is distracting and the shades of gray make the site feel dated. I like the extra functionality but the color scheme and overall look and feel was much better before. The first thing I did was run to my mobile app and hoping it hadn't changed as dramatically.
Bring back the colors assigned to individual activities - everything here blends together and the icons don't stand out enough from one another, whereas the colors made finding specific activities on a trip much easier...
While there are some nice things about the redesign (especially in terms of functionality), I feel this release is a step backwards in terms of layout and visual design. - The always visible edit/copy/move/delete links add clutter - Triangular shapes everywhere make it confusing if they're pointing to something, act as decoration, or are functional - All the different shades of gray make this feel drab and decreases legibility Thank you for keeping the flip-style clocks -- I love those :-)
It is difficult to see where one activity ends and another begins. Also, when going to print, some comments do not print. I cannot locate the option to "print notes" or "not include". All pages print with #5 on top right corner. Page set up is so that activites get printed on two pages (bottom of page starts and activity and runs to top of next page). Would appreciate if we could inset a page break. Perhaps I'm just not familiar with it enough yet but I liked the previous format better.
I find the new color scheme much harder to read. Also, it's difficult to see where one activity/entry ends and the next begins. I do like the collapsing of days with no activity into one row with weather. Although I've always wished an actual weather forecast could be included for close-in plans rather than "average" weather.
